It feels Damn Good

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

thank you to the people who remembered, the people who didnt know, even the people who forgot. because all of you are a part of my life, and My Life, as disappointing as it might appear sometimes, is the last thing i would want to change at this moment.

'TIL WE MEET AGAIN

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

to my dearest ones who i wont be seeing for at least a year

let not our farewell grieve thee
for we part only to meet again
though we may be worlds apart
our hearts are tied together :-)

thank you e for your pooh card! (was pretty stunned and touched to see it lying there on my bed while i was preparing to sleep!!)
thank you xw for listening to me rant about everything esp you-know-what

our last day together was FAB! if we ever get to meet in sg, we must do it again! let s and d know toooo :-D

thank you l for your message in my notebook! i dont know if you yourself rmr writing it during culture&cogn class but i totally forgot about it until i flipped to the page by chance. it was a stroke of serendipity, a flash of memory, a moment of loss, all at once.
oh gosh im getting teary.
i wish we could have had a proper farewell or that i could be there for your bday, but as it happens… darling, if you ever feel down or unsure or lose faith, i’ll always be there ok. to listen to you or whatever i can do to help. dont even bother about the time difference!

thank you m for the clarinet. wow i must say i was genuinely surprised!

thank you r for being so patient and helpful. i wouldnt have survived my immunizations if you didnt accompany me hah! :-P sorry we couldnt have met before we parted, but im still hoping to see you during term breaks!

thank you sj for everything- im bringing the seaweed with me! hope your ferry trip was comfy heehee looking forward to seeing you around :-)

thank you y for sending me our photos (did you paint the postcard?) enjoy ny for me ;-)

thank you zw for remembering me before you left too. very long since someone was willing to argue with me so enthusiastically hehe. so glad we could have that one last lunch together that we’d always talked abt :-P and of course how could i forget the desserts!!! you helped me find reason to miss japan man

and thank you everybody who i met during these 2 years and just cannot bear to part with me. trust me, the feeling is mutual :-)
in fact, one year will not be a very long time at all, but forgive me if i want it never to end. be happy for me! and wish me luck – i’ll definitely be in need of it.
and hopefully i’ll come back as a changed and more lovable person…

the next time i shall be updating will most probably be a very long time later in a very different environment. i have much to do much to see much to settle in and therefore, will neglect you readers intentionally.

WALKOVER

what a pleasant surprise to begin a morning!

ive had a taxing week, mainly stressing out over fulfilling certain application requirements and deadlines for my exchange program. i’d sent them a letter explaining in thorough my situation and proposed a few alternative solutions that might solve the problem and still meet their original requirements.

they replied in four words – yes that is acceptable.

thats all??
i had expected them to say something more than.. that to express their displeasure, possibly in a condescending manner, at someone who actually dared to challenge the rules

i certainly hadnt expected something so… amenable.

bb..bbu…but i havent even begun to argue my stand!
i was ready (and almost eager) to shake my fist threateningly and battle it out…

i swear, living in narrow-minded Freakland for 2 years has made me begin to think and predict that people are going to act in a most unaccommodating way all the time.

LITTLE WONDER, YOU

random chunks from the boundless excitings in my life~

so in todays semantics lesson
prof was explaining the Principle of Compositionality- basically its how we need a general formula to help us derive the correct meaning of a sentence so our brain wouldnt go haywire were we to write out rules for every single possible sentence in the universe

and he said “well look at the frequency with which Windows crashes, for example.”

and i was the only one who laughed
(apparently the Windows OS has more than a million lines of codes and rules)

so after class i went up to him and asked
“are you a Mac user?”
“yeah, why?”
“well it explains the example you gave just now”
and we both laughed and agreed WINDOWS SUCK.

DEVELOPING LEXOPHILIA

Monday, April 28th, 2008

monday’s semantics class has made chong one oh-so-happy girl!

and not just because i pleased my professor immensely with my quick-witted observation in class today lol

well anw the point is

my frequent updates this month have surprised even myself…

but after lesson today, i figured i had to apologize for my impertinence as reflected in last week’s entry

professor wasnt completely wrong
but neither was i completely right
language is necessary for thought indeed,
but not all the time.

despite being a linguistics student,
i must (most shamefacedly) confess that i had been deluded by a false dilemma

well apologies and regrets aside,

semantics is chock-full of philosophy, logic, and rhetoric
which is just my cup of tea!!
i realise i talk to so many people with different concepts and opinions, understanding semantics really helps with effective communication

well i might bore you but it helps me to revise so im just gonna put down the key words of what i learnt today :)
- entailment
- contrariety
- tautologies
- pleonasm
- zeugma
- semantic externalism
- truth conditions

and as of present i am exceedingly charmed by this site here
check out the link for Animelds!

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE WINTER

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

it finally finally snowed today!!
much to the delight of my inner child :-)))

STILL ALIVE

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

woww yeah
i admit there was a moment when i thought i might not have made it

am still feeling damn giddy lol

you know sometimes when you go swimming
and after stepping out of the pool
you still feel like you are buoyant
well yeah even now the table and computer sway right and left from time to time

maybe i really did too much
but it was tooooooo fun and i couldnt stop lol

FUJI Q HIGHLAND
theme park at the foot of Mount Fuji

such a good thing we went today
cuz it was a weekday
and isnt a holiday for most people
so queues were 1hr max thankfully

Fujiyama was the first one we took

everyone having waked up at 4plusam to reach the park at 9
we were all kinda in a half-sleep mode

welll this is certainly better than both my alarm clocks!

with a speed of 130plus kmh throughout an entire 3.36min ride
it WOKE us up like anything

now that is scary
a world record height (not the highest now) of 79m
anw i think ascends are scarier than descends because of the suspense it builds as you go higher and higher while trying not to imagine how it will be like going down
in conclusion fujiyama was definitely wilder than i had expected

on Dodonpa
quoting yue
your hair is horizontal

it looked so scary that i ended up riding it alone
but it’s just an appearance lol
because it had this

90degree drop at 52m
but because it was tooooo fast and too short at just 60s
official stats are that it accelerates to 172kmh in just 1.8s
(another world record speed but not the fastest anymore)
the wind was so strong
that before you could feel anything it had already ended
so actually it wasnt scary at all lol

the one i was looking most forward to was Eejanaika

the second 4d coaster in the world
with another 90degree vertical drop

i dont know if im lucky or unlucky
to always get the front row seats
so when we fell forward vertically
i had the best upside down view of the world while screaming
but shiok SHIOK SHIOK

other fun rides include
tondemina

uwaaaa giddddddyyyy hehehe
if you are afraid of roller coasters but you want to feel your stomach overturn continuously ride this one

wave swinger

it’s like this huge swing and merry go round in one and you feel like you are flyyyyying~
i seriously love this ride :):)

paniclock
most rides look scary but arent
this one is the direct OPPOSITE

slooww 360degree inversions continuously
the only one that made me really want to throw up ><

and the pretttyyyy ferris wheel called the Shining Flower~~
lolol
it sports completely transparent cars
but that wouldnt be too good if passengers were wearing skirts right…

and speaking of ferris wheels
the Singapore Flyer has a total height of 165m!
who said roller coasters were scarier ><

actually i think all the attractions werent potent on its own
but it's when you take them all consecutively...

well it doesnt matter
one day im definitely going back to FujiQ again!!
and hopefully conquer the world record horror house maze ><
